The Broward County Commission will consider rezoning the site of a former church in Dania Beach for a mid-rise building.
On Jan. 23, the commission will vote on the application concerning the 8.3-acre site at 2851 Stirling Road. It’s owned by Stirling Alya LLC, an affiliate of Fort Lauderdale-based Stellar Homes Group led by Larry Baum.
It acquired the property for $3.8 million in 2015 from the Archdiocese of Miami, which previously closed the St. Maurice Catholic Church there. The property is two blocks west of Interstate 95.
The three-story project would have 197 residential units . It’s currently zoned for 33 units.
The agenda item says the developer would pay $500 for additional units, or $82,500 in total, to the city’s affordable housing program in lieu of building affordable housing in the project.
Greenspoon Marder attorney Dennis D. Mele represents the developer.
